H.G. Zachariah Mar Severios
Born in 1978, Zachariah Mar Severios hails from Chirathilattu family and is part of the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Vakathanam-Puthenchantha, Kottayam diocese.
His academic journey started at J.M.H.S.S., Vakathanam, followed by Pre-Degree studies at K. G. College, Pampady. He holds a degree in Academic Law from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, and a postgraduate degree in Syriac literature from M.G. University.
Under the guidance of H.G. Geevarghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan, he received ordinations and devoted his life to God’s service.
Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the esteemed Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, holds a special place in the heart of Zachariah Mar Severios. In recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities and spiritual insight, Zachariah Mar Severios was chosen as a Metropolitan during the Malankara Syrian Christian Association held at Kolencherry on February 25, 2022. The pinnacle of his ordination came on July 28, 2022, when H.H. Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews III Catholicos ordained him as Metropolitan, bestowing upon him the name ‘Mar Severios’ at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Pazhanji.
Since November 3, 2022, Zachariah Mar Severios has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Idukki diocese.
Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the literary world under the pen-name ‘Zacher,’ authoring approximately 18 books that enlighten and inspire readers.
